Government hurries debate on anti-terrorism bill – Politics – CBC News

The bill was introduced in the Senate last year, and it’s suddenly in third reading in the House, with government members debating it with a sense of urgency.

…oh, and the law isn’t just because of an American threat — we’ve got our own right here! Just announced – the timing of course is a big fat coincidence – eh?

Alleged al-Qaeda-supported plot against Via train thwarted – Politics – CBC News

Canadian police say they have arrested two men and thwarted a plot to carry out a major terrorist attack on a Via passenger train in the Greater Toronto Area.

In pure doublespeak, there was no immediate threat, but it was important to arrest them quickly.

Had this plot been carried out, it would have resulted in innocent people being killed or seriously injured, RCMP Assistant Commissioner James Malizia told reporters on Monday.

However, Strachan said the attack was in the planning state but “not imminent.”

In a statement, RCMP said while they believe the individuals accused had the “capacity and intent” to carry out an attack, they believed there was “no imminent threat” to the public, rail employees, train passengers or infrastructure.

Happy to help Canadians get used to the State of Fear and the eventual capitulation to the emerging de factor government of the USA, otherwise known as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

U.S. Ambassador David Jacobson also congratulated the RCMP and said in a statement the arrests were the result of “extensive” cross-border co-operation.
