Performatives

Some fascinating insights on No Agenda about how psychopaths lie.

“I want you to know”, “I want to say one thing”, “I want you to listen to me”, “I’m going to say this again”. They all start a sentence, and they’re all true, setting the tone for the rest of the sentence, which may be a half-truth or full lie. Making the premise, or start of, the sentence true biases the entire sentence towards being true. It’s a very crafty way of lying, but it does work.

Those that feed the lines to the actors are very highly skilled at manipulation by communication. They know how to skirt laws and dance around tough issues. They are probably paid some of the biggest dollars in Washington and other power centers.

Very interesting. That could be how politicians and news people justify in their minds, lying to millions of people.
