While the most fantastic distraction ever to occupy Andrew White’s house was tweeting, the world’s biggest corporation was expanding its tentacles into the country that we are told controls the US.
Although subscribers to the “Joose control the US will” will see this as more proof of their belief, it’s easier for me to see it the opposite way. The US controls and occupies almost every worthwhile country on earth. Is this what most Americans support and wish to pay for? Do most Americans even know this fact? Not while the Kardashians and Trump dominate the media.
For the first time in history, the United States on Monday established an official, permanent military base in Israel: an air defense base in the heart of the Negev desert.
Despite recently closing hundreds of bases in Iraqand Afghanistan, the United States still maintains nearly 800 military bases in more than 70 countries and territories abroad—from giant “Little Americas” to small radar facilities. Britain, France and Russia, by contrast, have about 30 foreign bases combined.
By my calculation, maintaining bases and troops overseas cost $85 to $100 billion in fiscal year 2014; the total with bases and troops in warzones is $160 to $200 billion.
