This event came to mind as I listened to another old This American Life.

On 10 April 2010, a Tupolev Tu-154 aircraft of the Polish Air Force crashed near the city of Smolensk, Russia, killing all 96 people on board. If you listen to the above audio, you’ll see how a death of a populist figure can bring a country together – at least for a time.

Russia has been blamed for Polish ills (perhaps for real reasons) long before it became media enemy number 1 these days in the US.
