9/11 victim identification: DNA techniques advance

Andrew Schweighardt, a criminalist with the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner, holds an example of what a sample of DNA looks like after impurities are removed from bone powder during the process to identify remains of deceased victims. The unit handles DNA testing for unidentified persons, including victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center on 9/11.
