Here’s one to watch out for – the Canadian Space Agency’s joint project launch of the James Webb Space Telescope [OTIS] – “successor to the famed Hubble Space Telescope” which was only put back a year to 2021 this summer. [perhaps the cardboard and silver foil props weren’t ready? Or perhaps the actors in French Guiana [allegedly] wanted a break after their role in the silly BepiColombo Mercury Rocket launch?]
OTIS includes two Canadian instruments, the Fine Guidance Sensor (FGS) and the Near-InfraRed Imager and Slitless Spectrograph (NIRISS).

The Webb will use infrared light to study every phase in cosmic history, ranging from the first luminous glows after the Big Bang, to the formation of stellar systems…..Positioned 1,5 million km from Earth in the cold darkness of space, the Webb will be able to discover and study objects thousands of times fainter than those seen by current telescopes. Weighing about 6500 kg with a sunshield the size of a tennis court, this enormous space observatory’s 6.5-metre primary mirror will be composed of 18 hexagonal panels and will be cooled to an impressive -233 degrees Celsius (40 Kelvin). The telescope will be folded to fit inside its rocket for launch, and will open automatically like a flower once in space
Like they always do, flawlessly. suuuuuuure.

At 11.00 in this BepiColombo ** video, the ESA Director of Science gives the game away – saying the [compulsory] tax per European citizen per year oif EUR 10 to produce this nonsense is the equivalent of a cinema ticket and their productions are worth much more than a single cinema ticket….

      That’s entertainment!

** part of the 2015-2025 Cosmic Vision project of ESA…
