Of course, one of the first things he decided to do was buy a big screen TV – but not three!
A homeless man in Hungary who won roughly $3.1 million, but has donated a large portion of his winnings to charities.
Laszlo Andraschek was homeless when he spent the last of his cash on a lottery ticket last September, British newspaper The Guardian reported, and that ticket won one of the country’s largest jackpots, but he slipped under the media’s radar.
He came to media’s attention last week when he made a sizable donation to a hostel for the homeless.
After paying off his debts, buying a car and homes for his children, Andraschek, a recovering alcoholic, told the paper he will use the windfall to establish a foundation for addicts and abused women.
Andraschek, 55, didn’t previously have a passport, but wants to travel to Italy and spend the rest of his winnings wisely.
“I have become rich but I have not become a different person. I could buy a large-screen TV because I can afford it, but I won’t buy three because I can afford it,” he told the Guardian.
