The word selfie was made Word of the Year in 2013 by The Oxford Dictionary ( it still comes up as a spelling error here). Word of the Year? You’d think this official ‘award’ would go along with Oscars and Nobel Prizes as a badge of dishonour ; something being deliberately pushed to suit the agenda of the invisible hand.

    This from Oxford Dictionaries itself:

”Its linguistic productivity is already evident in the creation of numerous related spin-off terms showcasing particular parts of the body like helfie (a picture of one’s hair) and belfie (a picture of one’s posterior); a particular activity – welfie (workout selfie) and drelfie (drunken selfie), and even items of furniture – shelfie and bookshelfie.”

‘Belfie’? ‘Bookshelfie’? ‘Word of the Year’ with it’s excellent ‘linguistic productivity’? These Oxford Dictionary people, are not the sort I’d want teaching my children. They appear to be cretins!

The truth is, of course, they already do teach them.
