    Stunning the audience – for example with a sudden flash, a loud bang, and a puff of smoke – is indeed a classic ploy of the stagecraft charlatan. Another favorite way to fake people out is to lull them – for example by speaking in a contrived voice of slack, smarmy monotone which honest people don’t use.

    Whether a stagecraft charlatan will use the stun method or the lull method to make a sale is determined by the target demographic of the fakery and the product being marketed.
