This blog is slow because it’s summer, hot, and I am trying to swim everyday.
Yesterday, the date of this story, I went down as usual for a dip, hours after this story is purported to have happened.
No one was in the glassy calm water.
Why I wondered, already suspecting the answer.
The water was just over 60F, cold enough to make my feet burn (ie. pain)
This is a Lake Ontario phenomenon, as it’s deep and cold. If it rains within 12 hours, or the wind is from the south, cold water from the depths is brought to shore. Maybe if it hasn’t been over 30C for a few days the water surface heat dissipates. I still don’t have a good working theory of when this happens, but now I check the buoy weather station before I go to get a clue of the shore temperature.
Imagine my surprise when I read this story about some anonymous souls out in the water.
According to Staff Sgt. Micah Wagenberg, a call came in around 3:45 p.m. of an incident near Sandbar Road, on the shores of Lake Ontario.
The woman’s child was on a flotation device and strayed too far from the shore, Wagenberg said.
I can’t even find this street on a map. I know the area well.
I doubt anyone went floating in the water yesterday, let along a 6 year old. They definitely didn’t blow away, as the water was well, dead calm.
Boy some of these drills hit close to home!
Here’s more from a “citizen” reporter.
I asked him if he got any shots of the rescue. Those would be really exciting!
The woman has been upgraded from 32 to 33! She has ascended her Freemason ranks! The boy went from 6 to 5 to 6. More confusion in this clear #hrdpar.
Update 1814h: vicsim name was McWatters.
