The establishing shot general

The establishing shot is a long shot at the start of a scene or sequence, that shows things from a distance. Often an aerial shot, it is intended to help identify and orient the location or time for the scene and action that follow. [1]
The establishing shot is not only an informative introduction about location and time of a story. It has a special importance for the narration as it constitutes the reality for the filmstory.
Since digital technologies have enabled the construction of more complex distinctions of reality levels within fiction, and the digital dissemination of information has transformed all classical narrative media, the establishing shot in film, video, TV and internet have also become a crucial element for military psychological operations.
