His father Blair Kenneth Larkey [1925 – 1991] was the recipient of the honour OBE in 1984, where his occupation was company secretary to Birds Eye Walls. How do I teach 9/11 as a history lesson when it is not history to me?
It is such a challenge to teach my children about 9/11. They are so young (4th and 7th grades). I do not want them to be haunted by images. I will not show them photographs or videos of the news footage. So instead, I tell them about my friend and close business colleague Ingeborg Lariby, who was in Tower Two, 93rd floor. I tell them how she lived life to the fullest and how she loved New York and working above the clouds. I also tell them about what I was doing on 9/11, working on Penn Ave. a few blocks up from the White House, on my weekly conference call with Ingeborg that morning.
I tell them how because of what I went through that morning, my perspective about life, work, and what is truly important changed forever. I will never forget. RIP Ingeborg. Frank always worked in Manhattan and worked on every major skyscraper in the city. For many years worked on the construction of the World Trade Center towers.
When Julie [Morris, married 1947l three daughters Kathleen Virginia and Margaret] passed away in 1987 Frank knew that life must go on. He and Mickey Cardamone married in Mickey’s native Holland and built a new life – a second chapter as Frank called it – in Melbourne Florida. They moved to Suntree and found delight in learning to play golf and traveling the world; they remained active in Ascension Church parish. Together, they mourned the loss of Mickey’s son, Tom, and then her beloved niece, Ingebord Lariby, in the tragedy at the World Trade Center on September 11th and the loss of Kathy’s husband Peter Harrington in 1996, and Frank’s middle daughter, Ginny Shipman Schnibbe, in 2007.
Ah, the enigmatic Ingeborg Lariby, the sole Dutch vicsim of 9/11.

BRITISH man who lost his brother in the collapse of the World Trade Centre, said yesterday he knew almost immediately there was no hope for his survival.Keith Thompson, of Andover, Hampshire, watched on television as the towers collapsed, knowing his only brother Ian, a broker with Eurobrokers on the 84th floor, was inside the second tower. Mr Thompson had moved to New York almost 10 years ago, settled and raised his two children with his British-born wife, Lucy.
Yesterday Keith, 43,[also quoted as 51 earlier in the article] a retired sergeant-major who now works for Army headquarters in Salisbury, said: “He had bought the American dream.”Mr Thompson, speaking in New York where he had flown to be with his brother’s wife and children, said: “He was in the second tower that was hit, that was the first to collapse. He had worked for Eurobroker in London and here for a total of 23 years.”
Mr Thompson, 51, whose wife Karen and daughters Hannah, nine, and page, six, have stayed at home, said he and his sister-in-law had been as close to the site of the towers as possible.
“I met up with my brother’s wife yesterday and we went to his relocated offices and spoke to people in his company,” he said.”We got some counselling from their nurses, and my sister-in-law got some financial advice.”I got as close as I could to the site. Speaking in New York after flying out to be with his brother’s family, Mr Thompson said Ian “had bought the American dream”.
But he said the manner of his brother’s death was hard to accept.
“My brother didn’t die in an accident, he didn’t die naturally. He was murdered and that is how I have come to terms with that.”
Mr Thompson said he and his brother’s wife had visited the Manhattan crash site.
“It brings home the enormity of it all, when it is still smoking. You have to realise that you are not going to walk away from something like that.”
Mr Thompson said his two nieces were having trouble coming to terms with their father’s death.
“The 10-year-old still does not believe it happened. The 13-year-old is angry with the world,” he said.
Mr Thompson’s brother phoned his wife when the first tower was hit to reassure her that his tower was safe, but was not heard from again.Am early media case. Sounds like there was a special flight laid on for UK relatives.
