    DEFINITION of ‘Product Placement’

A form of advertising (usually not involving ads) in which branded products and services are noticeable within a drama production with large audiences. Product placements are presented in way that will generate positive feelings towards the advertised brand and are implemented, mentioned, or discussed through the program. This enables the audience to develop a stronger connection with the brand and provides justification for their purchase decision.

Headline – Cleveland ‘Hero’ Charles Ramsey Rewarded With Free Burgers for Life

    Date: May 2013

    Location: Cleveland, Ohio

Charles Ramsey, the Internet sensation hailed as a hero for helping to rescue three women kidnapped, raped and imprisoned for a decade, has earned himself free burgers for life at more than a dozen restaurants in Cleveland, Ohio.

That’s good news for Ramsey, 43, who will also enjoy free McDonald’s food for one year at a restaurant a few blocks from his house, but thereafter will presumably return to paying $3.85 for a Big Mac.

Several of the participating restaurants are located outside of Cleveland and one is in Pennsylvania, The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. One restaurant, Hodges, went so far as to name a sandwich modeled after McDonald’s Big Mac the “Ramsey Burger.”

Headline – A $40,000 BMW, $300 Armani sunglasses, flying first class and a private Katy Perry concert: Inside the privileged life of Hunger Games director’s son before he became the ‘virgin killer’

    Date: May 2014

    Location: Santa Barbara, California

Elliot Rodger often complained on his YouTube videos that his life wasn’t fair. But, his own social media presence reveals that the son of Hunger Games assistant director Peter Rodger lived a life of privilege.
He posted several videos and pictures behind the wheel of his black BMW 328i, a luxury coupe with a starting price tag of nearly $40,000.
Rodger is believed to have killed six people in Santa Barbara on Friday night because he was frustrated that he was still a virgin at age 22.

Headline – Man saved by mobile which stopped him being ‘blown to bits’ in Paris

    Date: Nov 2015

    Location: Paris

Known only as Sylvestre, he said his head would have “exploded” had his mobile not taken the impact of a bullet.
The grateful man was pictured holding his Samsung phone which had a smashed screen and a dent in its side just moments after the Paris attacks.
He told iTele: “This is the cell phone that took the hit, its what saved me. Otherwise my head would have been blown to bits. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.”

Headline – San Bernadino Shooting: Man’s iPhone Deflects Bullet, Saves His Life

    Date: December 2015

    Location: San Bernardino, California

A man was lucky to escape with his life in Wednesday’s mass shooting at the San Bernadino Inland Regional Centre after his iPhone deflected a bullet that was aimed at his chest.

The shooting which was carried out by a Saudi Muslim couple, Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, left 14 people dead and 21 others injured.

The man, 24-year-old Kevin Ortiz, was shot five times including two shots to the thigh and one each to the arm and shoulder.

However, he was lucky as the fifth bullet that would have snuffed the life out of him as he hid under a table – aimed at the chest – was deflected by his iPhone tucked into his shirt pocket.

Good topic. I searched for the term “sponsor a hoax” and drew a blank. It’s a good business model which takes the load off the taxpayer and puts it instead on any buyer of the product advertised in the hoax.
“We’re running a fake crash/epidemic outbreak/terror drill and wondered if you would like a product placement….”
I don’t think the Woolwich “beheading” did much for the Vauxhall brand, though, since the pre-wrecked Tigra was already out of production…

I searched for the term “sponsor a hoax”

Maybe that should’ve been “sponsor a PsyOp” 😉 Peekay was already onto that.

As they say there’s no such thing as bad publicity, remember the London riots and the repeated use of Blackberry messenger in the headlines.

London riots: how BlackBerry Messenger played a key role

However, the most powerful and up-to-the-minute rallying appears to have taken place on a more covert social network: BlackBerry Messenger (BBM).

Using BlackBerry handsets – the smartphone of choice for the majority (37%) of British teens, according to last week’s Ofcom study – BBM allows users to send one-to-many messages to their network of contacts, who are connected by “BBM PINs”. For many teens armed with a BlackBerry, BBM has replaced text messaging because it is free, instant and more part of a much larger community than regular SMS.

I’m just getting wise to this. Thanks, Nemesis. A lot of crime reported in the MSM seems very fake and improbable. Just the other day, I notice this wonderful product placement. [as if someone is going to wander off leaving GBP1300 of easily transportable kit lying around unattended…] Yes, we even have a price tag.
    The product?

Yours for 1900 Bucks, but don’t leave it unattended.

And further down in that article:

A Met spokesman said: “A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a laptop and remains in custody.”

    hmmn…

Headline – Toyota, U.S. clueless about how ISIS got hundreds of brand new pickup trucks

    Date: October 2015

    Location: Syria/Iraq

The U.S. government can’t figure out how ISIS terrorists got their hands on hundreds of brand new Toyota pickup trucks, and the Japanese automaker is stumped, too.

Top U.S. counterterror officials probed the automaker about how the Islamic State acquired a fleet of new cars after souped-up Toyota pickups loaded with weapons and packed with fighters began appearing in its propaganda videos, ABC News reported.

“This is a question we’ve been asking our neighbors,” said Lukman Faily, the Iraqi Ambassador to the United States. “How could these brand new trucks — these four-wheel drives, hundreds of them — where are they coming from?”
