Stolen History on the Higherside Chats

Unread post by dirtybenny »

Very interesting discussion of ancient architecture and world's fair.....but if it's all a simulation, it doesn't have to make logical sense.

Interesting logo that Greg has chosen for his site....would not be my choice.

The logo ( my opinion) is meant to be as it is; my takeaway it's masonic and upfront 'in your face', so beware...

But the topic is interesting- Michelle Gibson has done a lot about World Fairs as have others.

My interest is in old buildings, an their effects in our landscape in general, in cities now as in the past.
Here's a post from KD who used to be ;Stolen History' who then separated a while ago (not sure why)

One may be familiar to Ab in Toronto. I
It focusses on P O buildings, but obv all large buildings are the same: Got the label 'Brutalist architecture ' in the 60's.

The main pt is the lowering effect of all these modern buildings on our psyche, opposite of 'uplifting, aspirational', imo of course.

In Edinburgh, the Parliament building from 20 yrs ago is an eyesore. I didn't get why that was intentional of course ...

"The building aimed to achieve a poetic union between the Scottish landscape, its people, its culture, and the city of Edinburgh. The Parliament Building won numerous awards including the 2005 Stirling Prize and has been described by landscape architect Charles Jencks as "a tour de force of arts and crafts and quality without parallel in the last 100 years of British architecture".[11][12]" That's the narrative haha but the effect is as I said, the opposite.

Back to that logo for the highersite chats. (FDR and his fireside chats?)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fireside_chats They lasted 11 years (or was it 12

" Roosevelt was regarded as an effective communicator on radio, and the fireside chats kept him in high public regard throughout his presidency. Their introduction was later described as a "revolutionary experiment with a nascent media platform."[1]

The series of chats were among the first 50 recordings made part of the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress, which noted it as "an influential series of radio broadcasts in which Roosevelt utilized the media to present his programs and ideas directly to the public and thereby redefined the relationship between President Roosevelt and the American people in 1933."

The rise of Radio in the 1920's is another area I am interested in, if it exists here. It followed on the press and films and presaged TV ...

It seems that TPTB are beholden to tell us 'beware' and 'be alert' maybe it's then OK to hoodwink and fleece us bcos- we were warned lol.
We must get attuned to noticing their hints ... maybe a discussion point about this, bcos it's important.
