I have tracked my money ever since I had a computer.
While I know where every dollar goes, I've always over earned and under spent.
I've brown bagged my lunch since high school.
My family eats home cooked meals and leftovers.
We eat take out a couple of times a month as a treat. We rarely dine in.
While some may call us dull, I always have lived like the three little pig that built a brick house. 🐖 🏠.
We are ready for the coming financial storm, because we have lived a disciplined life since the start.

Great subject and question and you are far more aSHIFT. than me, Ab!

I know where my money is going. Because I decide where my money goes. I decide what I buy, from whom I buy and why I buy products (or sometimes services). Conscious consumerism, and going for what is organic (not necessarily organic produce, more organic vendors; good people).

Reciprocity doesn't need money, it is a fact of life (karma is an effect of it).

managing your economic levels, budgeting and so is very important and essential to a responsible life, but in that area you are ahead of especially me.

But real strength comes from the independence from (the psychosomatic effects of) money.
I would wonder if people can manage to live with funds so restricted that you end up at poverty levels.

I don't wish poverty to anyone, but the lessons of poverty are valuable to everyone

John le Bon is doing his blaming the victim schtick again. Most people are programmed robots and don't know why they buy what they do. If you want to realize how bad it is read the book by Vance Packard's The Hidden Persuaders https://b-ok.cc/book/995450/5f7913
