The Saros Cycle in 2023

Unread post by PotatoFieldsForever »

The saros is a period of exactly 223 synodic months (~18 years), one saros period after an eclipse, the Sun, Earth, and Moon return to approximately the same relative geometry, a near straight line, and a nearly identical eclipse will occur, in what is referred to as an eclipse cycle.
Synodic months: The period of time it takes to the moon to be "aligned" with the sun again, or equivalently, the period between two identical phases.

The number 223 is the only one that describes exactly the period of this cycle and this is the number of times the moon has to go through its phases cycle.

I find interesting that the age of majority in most countries is 18 years, approximately the times it takes to go through one of these eclipse series, there are quite a few exceptions but it works for most countries. (at most 6 cycles during a lifetime)

9/11 and Corona, while the pandemic officially started on 3/11/2020, they have been some claims that it may have begun to spread in September 2019, regardless of the reality behind those claims, it would have happened one saros cycle after 9/11.

It doesn't really work beyond these 2 events, for instance WW1 and WW2 don't really fit into the picture.
