Ai fakery

Unread post by YouCanCallMeAl »

I was wondering about putting this into ai and screens, but its not really screen related, nor is it that ai related. So I think there might be a reason to create a new topic for ai being used to create fake stuff.

This video is about protein folding:

It's also about using dna etc to look back into the past. Apparently, we can use ai to analyse a bit of egg shell from an extinct creature, and it can then tell us about that creature. (The reason the ostrich-like creature disappeared was on account of humans eating its eggs btw. Bad humans forever killing nature.)

There's potentially so much fakery going on here. It's dna real? Are proteins folded, or is this just a model. Is ai actually good at folding proteins? Are the extinct creature's eggs real? Can information to be gleaned from old eggs? Is any of this verifiable at all?!

How good would it be for the narrative creators to have "technology" that only they can use to retroactively update a history of humans destroying nature since time immemorial? Anytime you want to make people feel bad, just get ai to "fold some extinct creature's protein" for you, for a new feel-bad story. Convenient!
