Fake deaths and accidents in top level sport.

The "Skiing accident" of Michael Schumacher is a prime example.
This one in motor rallying caught my eye - an Irishman aged 33 by the name of Craig Breen.
The alleged crash happened in training - rather like that of cyclist Chris Froome - before a stage in a Croatian rally so away from prying eyes.

"killed instantly" in a slow-speed crash. His co-driver was uninjured.

The usual outpouring of grief and mourning.

The "death" was "confirmed" by the team. "Hyundai say..." Of course they do.

You can bet your bottom Euro that there will be no open casket funeral.
"Road conditions were slippery and the car slid off the road at a relatively low speed and made contact with a wooden fence," said team boss Cyril Abiteboul in a statement, providing details for the first time.

"A post from this fence intruded into the cabin through the driver’s side window.

"The stage was closed immediately and the on stage medical team was rapidly on the scene.

"Craig was taken to hospital from the stage. As far as can be determined, Craig’s passing was instantaneous."
