Mary - God save the Queen
The Queen died on September 8, that date was chosen to be the birth date of the Virgin Mary, also called Queen of Heaven by the Church. It takes place 9 months after the date chosen for the immaculate conception.
I find that the lyrics can work for both.
The Saint George's Cross has a religious connotation so it kinda works too.

Re: Mary - God save the Queen
The EU flag has also a Marian connotation even though, it is not officially admitted.

The date of the immaculate conception
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immaculate_Conception
There is not exactly the same number of stars but the symbol is striking
They give 2 dates for the first adoption of the flag, I think it is to confuse people, on their own site, it is stated that the flag was adopted on December 8 1955

The two EU parliaments:
The one located at Strasbourg And the one located at Brussels, nicknamed "Le Caprice des Dieux", (~Whims of Gods, because it is shaped like a brand of cheese of the same name and the extravagancy of the project) (cost 303 millions btw)
The explanation for the shape may be this one Let it be.
After these words of wisdom, you could listen to a transformer sing "Ave Maria"

Re: Mary - God save the Queen
Now this part is less obvious but It could be the missing link
Marianne One of the symbol of the French Republic and Liberty, Marianne (Marie + Anne), the reason for this choice is unclear. Note that she shows only one breast.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miriam_(given_name)Miriam (Hebrew: מִרְיָם, Modern: Mīryam, Tiberian: Mīryām) is a feminine given name recorded in Biblical Hebrew, recorded in the Book of Exodus as the name of the sister of Moses, the prophetess Miriam.[1]
...
An older Grecian pronunciation of this name, Maryām (Μαριάμ), is found in the Greek Old Testament (3rd century BCE) and in the New Testament manuscripts as the name of several women, including Mary, mother of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Variants of this name include Greek and Latin Maria, whence French Marie and English Mary.
...
In antiquity, it was variously etymologized as "rebellion", "bitter sea", "strong waters", "exalted one", "ruling one", "wished for child", or "beautiful".

Mary's mother was called Anne.
Some other EU stuff that may or may not link in to your thread.

Re: Mary - God save the Queen
Hugo Talks made a video about the link between the Queen's death and Virgin Mary.
The part about the painting adds weight to the case, I'm not sure about the test of Lady Diana's virginity.. He also makes the assumption that they counterfeit symbols made by God such as the Virgin, personally, I don't know if they were counterfeited or planted by the Roman Church.
Obviously, the date was chosen since the Queen was probably long gone, September 8 is also 911 days after March 11 and 3 days before 9/11.
You probably know this but if we write 9 and 11 in roman numeral, we get IX and XI. You merge the X's and you get a mason symbol IXXI. Some people made a claim about the "Auspice Maria" symbol but it really depends on how the M and the A are written.
Anyhow, a beehive needs a Queen.
The woman riding the bull is Europa, as you wrote. Though, I don't know much about her or why they named "Europe" after her.

Interesting, they say that both Mary and Anne were common names at the time but I think that what they've done here is clear.Mary's mother was called Anne.

Re: Mary - God save the Queen
Water plays a big part in keeping us trapped here, it surrounds us and according to the bible there is water above and below.
Water / Mater
Mer / Mère (Sea / Mother) (same pronunciation In French)
Mary ?
Are we in the womb of a protective mother who doesn't want to let her children go?
Who knows...

Re: Mary - God save the Queen
Mary is also Our Lady, Star of the Sea, just a random video to confirm it.
Interestingly enough, Semiramis, Nimrod's wife, had a back story she came from the Sea.
