It was the only English pope Adrian IV who, as the the Vicar of Christ on Earth, awarded the whole of Ireland to King Henry II (the Plantagenet dynasty) because it was "God's will".

The name "Adrian is simply another pronunciation of the name "Hadrian" (Adrianos), one of Rome's greatest and most famous emperors.

Why were popes named after the Emperor Hadrian?

Look up the basics on the Emperor Hadrian, and prepare to be surprised.
