Helen Keller

As requested by Ab, I'm starting a thread on Helen Keller.
I believe she was a hoax. I think you can read her wiki to see how unlikely it is that she is as portrayed.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helen_Keller
"Keller was also a prolific author, writing 14 books and hundreds of speeches and essays on topics ranging from animals to Mahatma Gandhi.[1] Keller campaigned for those with disabilities, for women's suffrage, labor rights, and world peace. In 1909 she joined the Socialist Party of America. She was a founding member of the American Civil Liberties Union."
"At 19 months old, Keller contracted an unknown illness .... The illness left Keller both deaf and blind."
It seems impossible to me to conceive of someone deaf and blind even being able to do much more than make clear she was happy/sad/hungry.
But she wrote books (14 of them!!), had a good handle on geopolitics, opinions on the right direction for society, etc, etc. How could someone so 'locked in' manage to even find concepts 'society', 'human nature', 'socialism', etc, etc. This is far more successful than anyone I know!
And let's not forget that she was not communicating at all from 19months to age 7. These are crucial years in a child's development! I know children that had glue ear but recovered, but mentally remained somewhat impacted on account of losing their hearing for a while.
I'm not sure what the truth is. She could be partially hearing, partially sighted, a total faker, her handler/assistant Anna Sullivan could be the actual author, etc. She could be a local 'show' that hit the big time, or part of an elite plan - she argued for socialism, women's suffrage - a character that is put up with an unassailable cloak of taboo protection - similar to Greta Thunberg - ie who dares publicly criticise a disabled person (or in Greta's case - a child)? It would be bad taste to do so.
Of course, its also possible that she is as portrayed - but the simplest explanation is preferable to me - and that is that there is some sort of hoax in play.
Interesting too are the articles that jump to her defence:
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2021/ ... -her-story
"Obviously, the entire theory is shockingly ableist, and serves as an example of the sort of prejudices that disabled people face every day"
https://daily.jstor.org/what-does-it-me ... r-a-fraud/
"Williams detailed a controversy over a story Keller had written, “The Frost King.”" - which in itself seems like misdirection to me, as it assumes she could write at all with those disabilities.. The article wants to say anyone who questions this is a ableist and racist - it brings in a black poet to conflate and smear.

"According to an article published by Isabella Lahoue, 'The Generation that Doesn’t Believe Helen Keller Existed', where she answers the question, "Why is it then that the only people who don’t believe in Helen Keller are teenagers?" saying, "Maybe it’s because we were never technically educated on her in school like we were on Anne Frank and other historical figures." Hmm.. Anne Frank and her biro doesn't help....
All I see is weak, bad faith defences. The articles do not address the merit's of the argument that there is a potential trick in play, but do attack the thoughtcrime of daring to question the presentation.
