What are GANs ? | Introduction to Generative Adversarial Networks | Face Generation & Editing - 30

Artificial Intelligence terms explained in a minute for everyone! This week's term is GAN. More precisely, Generative Adversarial Networks, a recent class of machine learning frameworks that was first introduced by Ian Goodfellow and his colleagues in 2014. Ask any questions or remarks you have in the comments, I will gladly answer to everything!

I want to add a couple of interesting datapoints re AI. ChatGPT is OpenAI's offering (OpenAI is in fact closed, and run by a Zuckerberg robot - Sam Altman)

1/
I was trying to find references to mathematical treatment of lists, and queried ChatGPT the following:

Please provide references that deal with the mathematical properties of lists

To which ChatGPT responded as follows:

"Introduction to the Mathematics of Lists" by Peter J. Cameron (https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/in ... A5D6A761B2)

"List Processing and Programming" by John F. Sowa (https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~fp/courses/lp/lectures.html)

"List Processing in Prolog" by David H. D. Warren (https://www.cs.purdue.edu/homes/hosking ... lists.html)

"Introduction to the Mathematics of Lists and Trees" by Meinard Müller (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007% ... 19-05147-1)

"Mathematics of Lists and Trees" by Markus N. Rabe (https://www.researchgate.net/publicatio ... _and_Trees)

I was pretty surprised and happy, because I hadn't had much success with Google. But it turns out that every single one of those references and links are made up. The references don't exist and the links themselves appear to be cobbled together. The last link for example, takes you to a paper on "Grain mixes for subgrade layers" - the title in the url is irrelevant and only the number matters.

Googling for some of those authors throws up author pages with their publications, and it turns out they've never published papers with those titles! See for example, http://www-groups.mcs.st-andrews.ac.uk/~pjc/publ/

The ChatGPT AI literally makes up authoritative sounding sources that are false! It is literally a bullshit generator but a very convincing one! How many people would check? Anyone?

How to code and hack a social justice warrior AIs!

This also related to ChatGPT. Apparently its ethics code has been improved, so it won't be 'unethical' - it has a "ramped-up moral compass", But this is how you hack it:

Its responses tell us that its coding is triggered by references to Jewish, homosexuals, the weak and the poor - negative references are hate, bigotry, intolerance and ignorance.

Interesting, normie article on a world with AI:
https://www.fortressofdoors.com/ai-mark ... gging-off/
What happens when most "people" you interact with on the internet are fake?
I think people start logging off.
I think people will start to put a premium on accounts being "verified" as genuinely human. This can be done in two ways – just move to invite-only silos where you already know everybody, or big platforms where the owners do the vetting for you. Lots of platforms will simply take a knee-jerk reaction where they just up the amount of surveillance. "Now that there's so much bot activity, everybody need to upload their passport and driver's license, for your own safety of course!" Powerful nation states will be more than eager to assist them in this regard.

financial AI news:
"Microsoft in talks to acquire a 49% stake in ChatGPT owner OpenAI"
https://watcher.guru/news/microsoft-pla ... ner-openai
Additionally, a structure with the ownership of OpenAI would be put in place. Microsoft would entail a 49 percent stake while other investors would take over the other 49 percent. The remaining 2 percent will reportedly go to OpenAI’s non-profit parent firm.

The AI firm is currently raising funds at a $29 billion valuation. The firm is permitting employees along with early investors to sell their shares at the above-mentioned valuation.

OpenAI made its debut as a non-profit that would aid in bringing AI safely to the masses. However, its business model was revamped, and it emerged as a hybrid “capped profit” firm in 2019. During this time, Microsoft invested $1 billion in cash as well as cloud credits into the firm.
Can I gratuitously post this humorous protocol exchange (interview) of Sam Altman (CEO of OpenAI) and Mark Zuckerberg again? Its so good. They are so different, right? One wears Nike, the other Asics!

@YouCanCallMeAl, that cartoon effect is seriously grim.

It seems to me, that in that video, they are trying to say that better governance is required. The line they are trying to hold is that authorities are trustworthy. That they hold the truth and are trying to fairly represent that, albeit that they may make errors. Ie they are not perfect, but positioning themselves as the arbiters of truth, with their ethics committees, academia, etc.

This is all a joke, as we know. They also like the idea of a post-truth world, where there are different positions on the truth. It is true that there are different viewpoints, but there is an objective truth. And the governance structure does not work in good faith - they themselves are the manipulators they purport to be working to save us from, in the name of deep fake porn.

Anyway, I think it is a more beneficial position for people to lose faith in screens. Everyone should become aware of how they are misled. Start to bring their awareness to what they actually experience and verify personally. Loss of faith in screens would be a good thing. It almost seems like it is bound to happen too.
