Red 'n Blacks, takes me back. Capsules, as I remember well. Pure MDMA, though not as eurphoric as Doves.

I remember China Whites, too. Heroin and speed - speedballs, as they were known in America.

This was around the time that Jungle/Breakbeat/Happy Hardcore/Garage became separate genres and undefined 'Rave' ended - the 'scene' all went to shit. Then came the corporates - Cream; Miss Moneypenny's; Gatecrasher; Ministry of Sound; and the gay scene: Trade.

But let's not kid ourselves: the whole house scene began in gay clubs in Detroit and Chicago.

Think about this: without Roland inventing the 707/808 and 909 none of this would have been possible.

Did Carl Cox ever get married? Alern8 began as porn dealers in Amsterdam.

The Coventry club Eclipse rebranded as The Edge around 1992. An apropo name change, as it fell off a cliff and folded.

Funny anecdote: I was in the toilets relieving myself at Trade once and two muscle Mary chaps were conversing at the urinals. One said to the other: "I love big black Cox."

Here he is at The Edge, 1993, just before it closed. It's now Coventry University's Students' Union, last time I checked:
