In Moore’s “Bowling for Columbine” there’s a sequence where he calls out our collective eagerness to believe in every fear-inspiring crisis, including disease scares. He even says the scares usually turn out have no validity at all. This amazing sequence occurs within a movie that’s trying to make us believe in another fear-inspiring crisis. An anonymous person contacted me about Columbine and my writings on the subject, telling me that I was wrong to assert that Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were literary devices who did not exist. That’s a new twist for me and I am going down that pathway, as he was not a fool and allowed most of what I wrote to stand. The two stand-ins used in the Columbine yearbook, Matt Stone (who made a gratuitous appearance in Michael Moore’s movie) and Trey Parker, somehow are at the center of this riddle.
