Now we got to login to comment wtf (small case) . . I turned this off right away. John should feel privileged, I guess – that someone would make a hit piece on him, wow. While i can’t argue with Tim that the green lighting, the hat and glasses invite mockery, I think JLB has slashed NASA’s Achilles Heel in his presentation. realalex’s revelation that the Dunning-Kruger effect has been demonstrated to be fraudulent is another bonus. And then the cream on the cake is JLB acknowledging that he is a CIA operative. This is the PERFECT start of a day day drying salt for me.

The irony is that the situation is actually reversed. In their seminal paper, Dunning and Kruger are the ones broadcasting their (statistical) incompetence by conflating autocorrelation for a psychological effect. In this light, the paper’s title may still be appropriate. It’s just that it was the authors (not the test subjects) who were ‘unskilled and unaware of it’.
