I noticed an increase of AIDS/HIV stories before this wreck. I visit a few popular forums with lots of “culture warriors” on both sides, and there was a story about male gays as a public health risk, with very high rates of infection. It was a noticable increase of attention to the topic of HIV/AIDS. Just doing a quick search see the story below, but this was hitting before the wreck
